Alaska on the Norwegian Sun

Today saw us have waffles for breakfast just around the corner from the hotel. Then we went on a walking exploration tour of a few streets close to the hotel as we had to check in at the ship between 1100 & 1130 hours. Just across the road from the hotel was the home of British Columbia (BC) Sports Hall of Fame and the Bears Football Team. The stadium is massive to say the least. The Terry Fox Plaza is named after a young man who developed cancer in his knee and had his leg removed above the knee and went on to be and athlete who ran across Canada to raise money for young cancer patients. His goal was to raise $24,000,000 $1 for ever young person with cancer. We had a brief look inside the building at all the athletes from the area who have represented BC at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

We then headed to the Ship. WOW! The Disney ship was import as well and that was fun watching the people check in for that. Families with special T-Shirts made for the occasion. Groups of families on our ship too also had shirts made. Our ship is a small ship. She is only 848 feet in length which enables her to get right up to the glaciers. This I am really looking forward to. She entered service i 2001. there is a new ship being commissioned in the fleet which will carry 7,000 passengers and is going to travel to New Zealand! Waahhoo!
