Alaska on the Norwegian Sun

This is an amazing little community. For those of you who watch "Alaskan Bush People", this is their community. Icy Strait is an indigenous community. They have made a tourist attraction for an old salmon canning factory and have set up a wild food from the area experience. Maurice and I did this and as a result I was able to purchase two bottles of liquid smoke which you cant buy at home. We were also privileged to try some of the recipes handed down from the earlier generations and given a copy bring home. Experienced cooking halibut and salmon on a BBQ then eating it. We also had time to catch the shuttle and pop around to Hoonah, which we had seen on TV so much. It is a small fishing village and has managed to keep non touristy with the publicity from Alaskan bush people. The Browns were not in town and people respected their privacy by not telling people where they lived but pointing in the general direction. We saw some wild life of bald eagles. A very high concentration of eagles live in this area. Icy Strait also sports the longest zip line in the world. It was a short stop but a very interesting one.

Saw some whales from the ship too but a bit far away to really see the action.

We also put small flat cedar chips onto a fire to show friendship to the people of the area.
