South East Asia Adventures!!

Day 116 ... We had a relaxing morning before our tuktuk trip to Phnom Penh Airport to catch our 4.45pm flight to Kuala Lumpur, which was the first of 3 flights to get us to Palawan, Philippines! It's going to be a long day! The flights we're too bad. The first was 2 hours. The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Manila was around 4 hours and then a flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa was just less than an hour. The only problem was we set off from Cambodia at 2pm on the 26th January and we landed in the Philippines at 7.30am on 27th so we had missed a nights sleep! Hello jetlag :(

Day 117 ... Now to try and check into our hotel 5 hours early! No such luck, we arrived and the hotel (which consisted of 5 rooms) was full. Thankfully the guy on the front desk found out there was a couple checking out early and he could have our room ready for around 9.30am. So he told us where a local coffee shop was...600m he said...it should be open by 8am he said...! After a 10 minute walk we found the so called coffee shop which was closed! So we carried on walking...realising that the location of our hotel was not ideal! We're in the middle of a load of hardware shops, looks like we're not near the centre or any decent restaurants. We eventually came across what looked like the Filipino version of a Little Chef called Jollibee, so we went in to wait for an hour. Once we got back to the hotel and checked in to our room, we once again realised location and quality of the hotel rooms really do have an affect on our moods and being so tired didn't help! The room was tiny, as was the bathroom. The only thing going for it was it was clean (ish) and the foam mattress was slightly softer than the rock hard one in Phnom Penh the previous night, or was it 2 nights ago? i've lost track! We slept from 9.30am until 12.30pm and then dozed again until around 3pm. We decided to walk the 30 minute walk to the main street with restaurants on, it was atually 40 minutes by the time we got to the Italian Adam had found on trip advisor. But it was worth the walk! The spag bol was worth the risk (I've had a couple of dodgy ones since we started travelling) but only a small portion so it's a good job we ordered one each and a pizza to share seeing as we hadn't eaten all day! We decided to get a tricycle (tuktuk) back to the hotel which we realised was a real trek driving back and not a nice walk really along the muddy roads with no pavements! Then we were out like a light!

Day 118 ... It's a good job I set an alarm, I woke up at 9.05 and I set the alarm for 9.10am as we have to pre order our breakfast the night before and it was for 9.30am. After breakfast we organised our bus for tomorrow to take us to El Nido at 11am. We booked through the hotel and its a 12 seater van. First time we haven't booked online so we can't see what we're getting. Fingers crossed it's okay as I've heard some can be a little rusty to say the least! The driving over here is crazy too apparently so we've been told to tell the driver to slow down if he is driving too fast. There are lots of accidents on this trip, so we we're told by the really cheery Aussie guy in Manila Airport who lives in Puerto Princesa for the last 12 months and pretty much put a downer on our whole trip telling us how much of a s*@t hole it is. Not to befriend anyone because they only want money, the sea is fully of sewage, theres bugs on the beaches that bite, there's not much to do, there's so much corruption, ISIS might kidnap us if we go to Coron and parts of El Nido too, the driving is ridiculous and so many tourists have died on bus journeys...thanks mate!! After an afternoon of Philippines research, flight and hotel booking we got a tricycle to a restaurant we passed last night. It was pretty nice with tuna steak and a strange take on chicken teriyaki. Now it's time to pack for our bus trip tomorrow morning.
