My diary

We lay by the pool in the morning and headed out around 11 when the National Museum of Fine Arts opened. The museum was great and had paintings and sculptures from Rodin, Rembrandt, Monet, Manet, Degas, Klee, Jackson Pollock, Picasso, and many others. They had beautiful tapestries and a bust of a Roman Emperor.

Our timing at the museum wasn't great as when we left there was a torrential downpour and thunderstorm. We took cover when we could but we were drenched.

We found this lovely french cafe in Recoleta, Croque Madame, for lunch. It was one of the best meals we have had. And we were able to dry off a bit.

Across from the restaurant, we stumbled upon one of the last remaining french mansions in Buenos Aires that had been turned into the Museum of Decorative Arts. A powerful Argentinian family used to live there and they had wonderful art as well as art from the Ming Dynasty. The wife was from a wealthy Argentinian family and the husband was a Chilean diplomat.

We did some shopping in the leather district and then headed home.

We had a great dinner at a neighbourhood steak house, Calden del Soho. They get their steaks from the same supplier as Don Julio and La Cabrera but it is more local and we really enjoyed it.
