Tower Of London & Discussion with Theatre Artists

May 10, 2019

Today's big excursion sent us to The Tower of London, which apparently is actually a castle. It was quite interesting to see this place where many famous people of English history had died. Quite possibly the most exciting part of all was getting to see the exhibit with the crown jewels. Within the said exhibit, there was a short film, featuring the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. I was fascinated that

we were able to see this, and enjoyed every moment. The only downside was that we were not allowed to take pictures, which in hindsight, makes sense.

Another very interesting part of the Tower was the large cage with the Ravens. It is said that if all six ravens leave the Tower, it will fall. This is probably why they keep seven there, just to make sure there are always at least six.

The one thing I did not enjoy about the Tower was the number of narrow, spiral staircases. This made getting up each individual turret very complicated, especially since there were very many people trying to go to the same place at once.

As the Tower took up a majority of the day, the only remaining event we had for the afternoon was a discussion with Sam and Elle, both of whom are active artists in the performance industry. Sam is currently a makeup artist, but he started by working in carpentry. Elle, on the other hand, had worked in front of house with the box office and sales, which is something I found to be extremely useful knowledge. Having worked in the box office at Sweet Briar since freshman year, I would love to be able to put those skills to good use in the future.

Once Sam and Elle left, a group of us went to the Japanese restaurant Hare & Tortoise for dinner. It was a nice opportunity to spend some time together before our time in London was over. It is hard to believe we only have one more day!
