London 2019: International Theatre Tour

Since Wednesday had been such a busy day, we began today with a class discussion. It was very interesting to hear everyone's differing opinions on the show we saw last night, along with everything we agreed on. I also heard opinions about small things which I hadn't thought of during my personal reflection.

Today's adventures first took us to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, also known as RADA. There, we were able to meet and talk to prop artist Abby Price, along with getting to see her portfolio. As a graduate of RADA, she was able to explain to us not only her career but also how attending school there was different than going to a school like Sweet Briar.

From there, Abby took us around the corner, and we were able to go into the prop shop. It was very entertaining to be able to see the behind the scenes area where the students were able to work on both personal projects along with show props. While we were looking around, one girl was working on a fruit tart and was sculpting raspberries.

As a group, we went out for our first pub lunch. I was almost overwhelmed with the number of choices on the menu. Many things sounded delicious, and I only wish there had been more time to try all of them.

Continuing on our shopping adventures from yesterday, Emma, Zoe, and I managed to navigate the tube over to Covent Gardens. The place was enormous. Not only were there enclosed shops, but there were also many rows of independent vendors. One woman in particular was selling dance related items, including t-shirts and drawings.

Once again, I found it entertaining to see which shops in the market were also located in the States. Many popular makeup brands, such as Dior and MAC, had storefronts, but there were also stores which we hadn't heard of before. One such place was Whittard of Chelsea. They sold many different flavors of tea and had free samples of many available. Our favorite flavor was the Pink Lemonade since it didn't even taste like tea. Of course, the three of us then came to figure out that it was 99% pink lemonade mix, and only 1% black tea.

Due to the fact that we were about a mile away from the theatre, we opted to continue on our way and find dinner. Tonight we went to Bill's, which was a Mediterranean-type place. The food was extremely delicious, and it was also relatively cheap.

Tonight's show was The Play That Goes Wrong, presented by Mischief Theatre. Right from the beginning, the actors were engaging with the audience. Before the show even officially started, the "stage crew" was frantically searching around the house for a lost dog named Winston. Given it was a play within a play, it was somewhat confusing when it came to where the intended errors ended and, if there were any, the unintentional ones began. Everything was timed down to the minute since there were so many chances for things to go wrong.

This was quite honestly one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. I don't think there was ever a moment when I wasn't laughing. The jokes were all on point, and I want to see the other shows the company has to offer.
