Vertebrate Travelogue

Dear Journal,
After visiting Japan the crew decided we were tired of seeing and observing four legged vertebrates. We wanted to observe fish, so we searched for the Siamese fighting fish in the Mekong River that runs through Southeastern countries like: Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam.

These fish usually live in shallow waters or overgrown ponds, polluted streams, or other places with low oxygen content.

Southeast Asia

Dear Journal,
After visiting Japan the crew decided we were tired of seeing and observing four legged vertebrates. We wanted to observe fish, so we searched for the Siamese fighting fish in the Mekong River that runs through Southeastern countries like: Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam.

These fish usually live in shallow waters or overgrown ponds, polluted streams, or other places with low oxygen content.

Adaptations:
To handle the low oxygen, these bony fish have labyrinth organs.
They also have overlapping scales to protect them from harm and for efficient gilding.
The dull coloration wards off predators, but they use to attract mates. In order to display the desired colors, they go through selective breeding.
Their upturned mouths allows them to scoop food from the surface.
