History Trip

After five days of traveling we have 3234.50 dollars in our budget. Next stop is St. Louis, Missouri, We will be traveling 283 miles north from Tennessee. We will need to get gas at 200 miles for 2.67 and we will fill up and spend 53 dollars. In St. Louis we will stay in the Crowne Plaza St. Louis and will spend 69 dollars over one night. While being in St. Louis we went to visit the Gateway Arch. Each ticket cost us 13 dollars since we bought the tickets that included the Gateway Arch tram. We spent a total of 39 dollars. We had to get in an elevator/tram in order to get to the top and Victor started to jump on it since he knew Juan was afraid of going into elevators and of heights and found it funny. It took us about 4 minutes to get to the Observation deck and to the west we could see the Old Courthouse, Busch Stadium, Ballpark Village and the Edward Jones Dome. To the east side we could see the magnificent Mississippi river. We learned that the memorial was built to memorialize the story of the nation's westward expansion. It was completed in 1965 and it cost 13 million dollars to build the arch. The foundations extend 60 feet into the ground and weighs 17,246 tons, including 900 tons of stainless steel. In 2014 two men tried to bomb the Arch and kill St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson, but failed. We had so much fun and enjoyed the beautiful view of St. Louis.
