History Trip

Today we left Kitty Hawk, Carolina and traveled to Washington D.C. It's 269 miles away from Kitty Hawk and it will take us about 4 hours and 30 minutes to get to Washington D.C. We will spend 40 dollars in gas in order to get there. We will be staying at the Kellogg Conference Hotel for three days which will end up costing us 222 dollars. On our first day in Washington we will go see the Nations Most Favorite Obelisk and the National Marine Memorial. Unfortunately we couldn't go to the top of the Obelisk since its elevator is being repaired , but we still learned about it. It was built to commemorate George Washington accomplishments as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the United States. Our next place was the National Marine Memorial. It's dedicated to all U.S marine corps personnel who have died since 1775. It is required to have a U.S flag fly over the memorial 24 hours a day. On our second day here we went to visit Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the National Museum of American History. Our first place today was the Tomb Of the Unknown Soldier and we learned that it's a monument dedicated to U.S service members that their bodies weren't found. Now they have soldiers around because people used to have picnics there, crazy huh!! After this we went to the National Museum of American History. There we went to see the U.S flag that Betsy Ross did and learned that Francis Scott Key wrote the star-spangled banner after defeating the British in war. While being there we also decided to visit the Advertising War exhibition. We learned that the government used art and illustration as a way of propaganda to promote world war 1. On our last day

there we decided to visit the Lincoln Memorial and the National Air and Space Museum. We learned that the Lincoln memorial was built on Lincoln's 100th birthday to honor him. After this we visited the National Air and Space Museum and the first thing that we did was go touch a rock from the moon. We thought it was going to be a cool thing to look at, but it was a simple rock just like the ones that you can find here on Earth. We learned that The Spirit of St. Louis was the first monoplane plane to nonstop make a transatlantic flight with out stopping. It was flown solo by Charles Lindbergh. This had to be the most tiring place that we have visited so far.
