The Middle East

The building and use of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which was done during Egypt's Old Kingdom, are both amazing feats of architecture. Based on primary sources, it looks like a big group of people, possibly including both skilled workers and slaves, helped build the structure. The pyramid was used as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu, which shows that the Egyptians believed in the afterlife and thought it was important to keep the body of the king to make the shift easier. The Great Pyramid is important to Egyptian culture and religion because it shows how far the country has come. It shows how advanced Egyptian culture was because it took a lot of engineering and math knowledge to build. In addition, the fact that the pyramid is shaped like a starry sky shows how deeply connected the Egyptians were with the world. The Great Pyramid would have many visitors, such as priests who would perform religious ceremonies, craftsmen who would help build the pyramid, and maybe even merchants who would give goods for funeral ceremonies. The smell of offerings would likely fill the air, and people would talk about religious events and what the afterlife means. The area around the pyramid would be filled with the steady sounds of building, like stone being carved, moved, and put in place. If you added the smell of burning incense and gifts, you could create a magical atmosphere that would make people respect religious practices.
