Paris Study Abroad

My first two days in France have been crazy. There is never enough time in the day. After eight hours of being cramped in a middle seat, I arrived in Paris. It didn't take too long to get through customs and there was no problem finding my way in the airport. I was extremely exhausted but luckly everything went smoothly.

I arrived on Sunday so walking into the church with all my bags was a bit overwhelming. Everyone was super friendly and wanted to meet the American student. After a while I was greeted by Gaelle. She took me to the apartments to get settled in. I met the other girls on the trip and my roommate Michaela. I slept for most of the evening and the night as I had gotten no sleep the night before I left or on the plane.

I was ready to explore the next morning. My roommate and I decided to go out somewhere for breakfast. It was a beautiful walk. The old buildings and architecture are beautiful. We went to a little restaurant not far from the apartments. Our waitress spoke very little English. Ordering was not too bad but we had a hard time asking for the bill. It was super rewarding when she finally understood. Although there was a language barrier she was extremely nice and helpful.

The rest of the day consisted of going to get groceries and working on class work. Faith, Michaela, and I went over to the church to get coffee and study. We met a lot of people while there so I ended up not getting too much done.

Overall, I am surprised at how little of a shock it has been so far. The language barrier is the biggest thing that I see which is different... Oh and there is amazing food here. Most people are reserved but super friendly after meeting them. I am most excited to see what relationships I make and how far along my French will have come at the end of the trip. There is so much more to explore!
