Day 8 Saturday

CAIRNS:
Stayed at a motel in Cairns $57 where it bucketed down most of the night.
Rained a tad in the morning. I went down to the Cairns Esplanade and wandered around the Harbour for a while. I drove thru the main town section of Cairns and then headed North.
I reached that Treetop Cable Railway where I stopped and checked out the prices. $77 for a return trip up the mountain.. bugger that I thought and got back on the road.
I somehow ended up on the Savannah Hwy heading west instead of north so I just kept going.

NORMANTON - BOGGED!:
I reached Normanton and decided to find somewhere to sleep since it was getting dark.
I found a place near a bridge and just as I turned in the front wheels slid, then the back started to spin and I was bogged. backwards, forwards, back, forth for about 5 mins and finally I was able to drive out of there.. then just after I get out of the bog hole, I see the sign saying Crocodiles in Estruary and I was right by the river, screw that, find another place.
So an hour further down the road from Normanton
1 snake, 1 small crocodile, a very close call with a very large black pig, a couple of quick stops for stupid tree kangaroos and I am finally in the passengers seat in a rest area about to go to sleep... millions of bugs out there, not even game to open the window!
I thought the crocodile was a huge lizard crossing the road until I got

up close and damm thats a little croc just waddling across the road.
Thinking I should have stayed at the last rest area I stopped at about 3 hours ago, was nice, quiet and not so many bugs!
nearly 1000km today! across some of the longest and most boring roads yet, straight, mostly nothing to look at.
