Our next trip was Casterway's, which went from 1770. We stayed in a nice hostel in Agnes Water the night before, which was more like a holiday resort than a hostel. We picked up some supplies then headed to the airstrip to be greeted by our pilot. Me, Henry and the new supervisor Jay, were flown to the island on a tiny 4 man plane. The views were incredible as we flew over the ocean before landing on the beach next to our casterways camp. The camp was a few tents, some hammocks, a small kitchen and fireplace. 1770, Australia
We had kayaks, tubes, fishing lines and footballs to keep us amused for the next 2 days. The rest of our group slowly flew in 3 at a time. It was a strange group of people, some we got on well with and others kept to
themselves.
We went fishing on the kayaks a few times and a German guy caught a baby shark, which we cooked and ate, and it was surprisingly very nice. There were 2 goannas living at the camp as well which were a good 1.5 meters long. Me and Henry walked to the lighthouse one evening, saw loads of wild kangaroos and got a private tour of the lighthouse and engine room from the keeper. It was really interesting learning about its long and weird history including disappearances and a few murders.
We drank goon, played games and I fell asleep on the beach again. One night me and Henry decided to sleep on the hammocks so we could watch the stars. I had my mosquito net sleeping bag, so I was fine, although boiling. Henry however got eaten alive once again, although he insists it was worth it.
Our flight back was much more fun. Bruce was an ex stunt pilot and gave us some fun manoeuvres including turning the engine off and letting us fall, taking some funny pictures in the process.
