Today was all about the temples and shrines, just for noting, Shrines are Shinto, temples are Buddhism. If you want to see nothing but this then Kyoto is where you want to be. We visited the Shoren-in Temple, Shorenin temple is one of the five Monzeki temples of the Tendai sect in Kyoto; the head priests at these temples originally belonged to the imperial family. We then walked along the river to and then through Maruyama-koen Park which was quite pretty. We then walked
along to Kodai-ji Temple. The temple was established in 1606 by Kita-no-Mandokoro (a sort of princess) in memory of her late husband Toyotomi Hideyoshi. We also hit Eikando temple and Nanzen-ji Temple (one of the biggest temples in Japan)
We wandered up Nene-no-Michi, one of Kyoto’s most scenic streets to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, which is high on the hills overlooking Kyoto and has amazing views of the city.
Not sure if it's part of the upcoming festival or if is just how the younger demographic keep cool during summer, but they all head to the banks of the main river (kamo river) after dusk and drink, listen to music and dance, so tonight BF and I joined them. We grabbed some booze from the convenience store (Konbini); yes you can get alcohol from convenience stores here, its pretty great and sat with our feet in the river watching the world.
