Day 13 Mindelheim/Neuschwanstine/tegelberg/Linderhof
Weather 29’C
Today made up for all the errors of yesterday. What a fabulous day!
As I’ve said earlier the German tourist sights tend to be a bit tachy so I was a bit worried about what I might find at the fairy tale castle. I needn’t have worried, it was spectacular and everything I hopes. We prebooked tickets four days ago and got there at about 8am. This turned out to be ideal as we gt to stand on the famous bridge overlooking the castle with almost no one else. Two hours later and you could almost not move on the bridge because of the huge volume people. The Tours through both castles ran like a well oiled machine. You are not allowed any photos inside and you held a small device to your ear to hear each part of the tour so it was quiet and so smoothly run.

I had tried to do a bit of research on the best places to photograph the castle and one sight I came across mentioned a nearby cable car that had a good view of the castle with the mountains in the background. We drove a further 2km down the road and sure enough there was a cable car going right up the side of a mountain and almost no tourists in sight. I’m not going to say too much about the view from the top of the mountain as the photos provide the best details. It was breath taking and we stopped to enjoy our lunch with a view before walking a further 500mts up the mountain for an even better view of the Alps. I could have spent the rest of the day there just admiring the view but we did want to check out one more castle before the day was through.
Little bit about Linderhof… The castle itself was beautiful but almost as beautiful was the drive we took to get there. Bright green pastures on one side of a narrow winding road that cut a path beside the snow-capped Bavarian Alps and the crystal clear aqua mountain lake at its base. We had to stop on the way just to dip our toes in the freezing water. We took our time exploring the castle and the grounds but our legs had nearly reached their limit. My phone ran out of battery late afternoon so I didn’t get an accurate step count however I believe it would have come close to breaking my last record set in Berlin of 26,549. Will sleep well tonight.
