There is no doubt that MLK is an exceptional church. The genuine love and fellowship between believers, the sincerity of the leadership and the spirit-infused worship all create an atmosphere for spiritual growth. These factors certainly contribute to the exceptionality of the church, however I think that what makes MLK stand out even more so, is that it is a church thriving in a community otherwise spiritually comatose. Each Sunday, there are four services, all of which are packed to the ceiling (they actually had to build a makeshift balcony to accommodate the growing crowds) and God's presence is tangible. The diversity of the membership- young and old, black and white, rich and poor- MLK is surely a glimpse of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. The people are incredibly kind and welcoming here- despite our very poor French and their very poor English. By now, there have been a few instances where we have seen church members out around town, and they act as if running into us is the best thing that has happened all day. I have mostly served with the coffee team, and this has allowed me to interact with many church members (everyone in France drinks coffee. Everyone. At all times of the day.) I have enjoyed participating in this relatively small act of service, and look forward to becoming more engrained in the life of MLK.
