For my DIY excursion, I went to the Louvre. I woke up early on a Thursday morning, grabbed a pain au chocolate and a café, and took the metro into Paris. We had already gone on a group excursion to the Louvre, but the group only wanted to stay for a couple hours and we didn't get to see even half of the museum. I told myself that I would go back and spend several hours by myself, and that's exactly what I did! After checking my coat and bag into the coat room, I headed into the seemingly endless museum. I took my time as I toured room
after room of Italian and French paintings. I made sure to go back to the Mona Lisa....the last time I was here, we could barely fight our way to the front of the massive crow trying to catch a glimpse of her! I walked around the brightly lit Greek sculpture exhibits several times- I felt as if I couldn't process the magnitude and importance of the art that I was looking at. After seeing all that I could of the great Dutch painters, and the walking through the halls full of ancient Egyptian artifacts and mummies, I decided to call it quits. I had spend several hours just getting lost in the museum, and my mind was so saturated with art that I don't think that I could properly appreciated anything more. As I went back to the coat room and grabbed my things, I felt a wonderful peace and was acutely aware of how blessed I am. I mean come on! I just got to spend an afternoon in the most famous museum in the world, wandering the quiet galleries and feasting my eyes upon history.
