Acrtic Cruise to Greenland & Canada, 9-25 September 2024
To finish this round of travel with a bang, we decided to splurge and book a last minute passage on a cruise --- our first --- to the arctic region, specifically western Greenland and northeastern Canada (Nunavut territory), beginning immediately after our Iceland tour. We also invited B, R's mother, to join us.
We flew on a chartered airplane from Reykjavík, Iceland, to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (KEF - SFJ), where we boarded the smallish cruise ship (less than 150 passengers), SH Vega, and spent the next 16 days and nights on board, disembarking for a few hours a
day on most days, either at Greenlandic and Inuit settlements, or in remote uninhabited arctic bays and inlets. We had the fortune to enjoy breathtaking scenery as far as the eye could see, numerous wildlife sightings (bears, foxes, hares, seals, whales), some northern lights, interesting daily lectures on relevant subjects, pleasant weather (with the exception of one fierce storm), good company, and great food.
And so, filled with experiences and photographs, we returned home (SFJ - KEF - RDU), ready to start again in 2025.
