The Big Adventure

A very long journey, starting with a lovely send off from Poole station by Charlotte and Kiri on Tuesday and an overnight stay with Matt and Bianca. Lots of goodbyes, lots of excitement and just a little trepidation.

The journey to Heathrow was very easy. As was getting through airport security, it was all very civilised. The flight was just very, very long and because of the time difference, we didn’t get much sleep. We did watch a lot of films though. We eventually landed at Bangkok 6:15 on Thursday 9th November.

The journey to Heathrow was very easy. As was getting through airport security, it was all very civilised. The flight was just very, very long and because of the time difference, we didn’t get much sleep. We did watch a lot of films though. We eventually landed at Bangkok 6:15 on Thursday 9th November.

The transfer at Bangkok went smoothly, once we had found our way to the gate. We arrived at BED Phrasingh hotel at around 9:30, tired out, jet lagged and light headed. Fortunately, we were able to access our room at 11:00, so had an hour’s sleep, then headed out for a wander and a bite to eat.

Friday 10th November

Woke up late. After an excellent breakfast, we headed out. First stop, the Silver Temple. What an amazing and beautiful place. We

then got a red songthaew (taxi) to the Royal Park. What a beautiful place to wander and look at nature. The Palace Temple was fabulous. As were the gardens and especially the orchids.

When we got home, I had a swim in the hotel pool. The staff are so attentive. I was bought a towel and asked if I wanted an ice cream. We went out to eat at the Chang Phuek food market. Delicious!

Saturday & Sunday 11th & 12th November

We made the most of our last two days in Chiang Mai. Saturday we went on a tour to Doi Inthanon National Park, the highest mountain in Thailand. We visited a beautiful park with twin pagodas, saw rice being grown, two waterfalls, various markets and had lunch in a local village restaurant. Sunday we wandered along the river area and went to the Sunday Walking market.

We’ve had a wonderful time in Chiang Mai. Tomorrow we’re off on a bus to Chiang Rai.
