Religious Experiences
-Paris-
During my time here in Paris, I have struggled to get close to the Lord. There is a certain heaviness that comes with this beautiful city, there also is a lot of darkness and sadness around. One name used for Paris is "the heart-broken city" and living here has shown me the meaning of that name. This country has suffered through mutilate horrific world wars that have literally changed peoples lives forever. This emotional strain does not just go away with time, it stays with the country and people forever, it's their history. Although they honor the past very well, they can become stuck in their old ways and in the past.
Walking around, observing and being apart of the Parisian culture, it is easy to see that a lot of people exclude God from the picture. They choose to live life without God in it and you can feel it all around you. I know that it is this way around the world and especially in the states, but here you can spiritually feel the environment without the Lord. America was founded on God, and you can feel it in our environment and atmosphere. France was founded by man, greed, and wars, you can feel the difference. Life without the Lord is a life without hope, and I'm sure a lot of people here are hopeless.
-MLK-
We do attend church almost every Sunday as well as a Bible Study every Tuesday night, and we serve in the church twice a month. I really enjoy MLK and the people there. I get the most out of our Tuesday night meetings, normally because it is in English, but also because it is more directed towards our needs and personal issues. Church on Sunday is all in French and although the worship is amazing, the preaching is hard to follow.
I do feel like my faith is growing because I am having to seek the Lord on my own in an unfamiliar, dark environment. It has actually been a very cool experience for me. I am no longer in the ORU Christian bubble where everyone has the same beliefs as me, but I am in a world where people reject God every day and I get to establish a strong bond with Him that will sustain me forever.
Living on my own and becoming my own person in a different country has also helped me rely on the Lord more and to trust Him. There were many times that I was very sick, probably the sickest I have ever been, and I had to trust the Lord to not only heal me but provide for me in the process. This whole trip has taught me a lot about myself, the Lord and adulthood, I grew a lot. I am very grateful for it.
