My diary

Week Two

So the first week is already over and alas so is our time in HK. I will miss the incredibly organised people over here. I guess they have to be well organised with so many people packed into the city. I love the small busses that wiz about all over the place. I also like the way they all seem so careful here, if there is one drop of rain then there is an outbreak of umbrellas, if anyone sneezes then they all seem to have a spare medical mask to wear. It would appear no risk is too small. I am expecting a big change in Thailand where if memory serves me well no risk is too great.
It was a simple three-hour flight from the organised HK to the disorganized splendor that is Bangkok. There was an immediate surge in temperature up to 26 in the evening 34 in the day, quite a contrast to the 23 in HK and even more so to the UK where they are enduring the ‘Beast from the East’ a blast of very cold weather that is even on the news here! Funnily enough they are comparing it to the frosty relations between UK and Europe as Brexit evolves. Brexit is not something I am going to miss whilst I’m away.
Many of you will laugh when you here that we have secured a week in a hotel in Bangkok (Travel Lodge) with a rooftop infinity pool, gym, queen size bed and breakfast for £20 per night for the room - £10 per person. We love it here!!
We have already booked our trip to the River Kwai for next week and I am excited about that.
We have enjoyed day trips to the Wong Lang Market – a real eye opener. Frequented by mainly Thai people the smells were pretty potent and there were loads of bargains to be had, not that we brought anything as its hard work carrying around what we have already.
We have also visited the flower market that does exactly what it says on the tin - full of flowers. In the evenings we usually walk along the Sukhumvit road choosing where we might eat our evening meal.. We have eaten some street food and it was very nice but we are very picky to ensure that we don’t get ill at this early stage. So far so good.
The Sukhumvit road is also good for spotting the lady boys from amongst the ‘regular’ prostitutes. To be fair they don’t bother you when you are together but it is fair to say it is a sleazy place with many undesirable types. Thankfully they are not in our hotel ….. well the guy down the hall did have an afternoon visitor yesterday. On the people watching front Wendy is in her element the carrying on here is epic. The full spectrum to observe, from Lady Boys who are very attractive and very difficult to tell part form ‘real’ women to men that

could at best be said to vaguely look feminine. It all makes for entertainment.
We spend one day out and about sight seeing then a day by the pool – not because we a re lazy but because its so hot and we are not yet fully used to it.
