Australia

Dear all,

The weather has cleared up beautifully, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees again and not a cloud to be seen.

Saturday was another day of working, our shift was from 9:00 - 12:00, but it was crazy busy, so we stayed a little longer. This time, we also made the dough for the donuts and the ice cream. It's hard work, but it's fun. Couldn't imagine myself pulling a shift from 8:00 - 18:00 though, I think I'd go crazy from exhaustion. Before we left, we got to taste a Donut Sunday. It's a warm cinnamon donut, with ice cream on top of it and a little maple syrup to top it off. It tasted heavenly. Coming from me that's a big compliment, seeing as I don't even like ice cream all that much. When we got home, we had some time to just chill, and we played card and board games with Renee.

Sunday was another chill day. As you might have noticed, we alternate between busy days and chill days. It's a good working system ;) We made my family pancakes, and we totally convinced them bacon on your pancake is, in fact, not a bad thing at all. We went to church in the afternoon and ate our dinner in front of the big screen, watching Pirates of the Caribbean,

Today, Monday, we went to Brisbane. Renee was going to Brisbane as well, together with her Legal Studies class, so we caught the same train. Our ways parted at the court house though, she went in and we walked on further to the Botanical gardens. As we were walking down the street, at little banner caught Emma's eye. It read: "Royal Dutch Marine Corps." I decided to ask the few elderly men whether they could speak Dutch and they could. They were actually hosting a Commemoration Service. It started at 11:00, so we had a little time left and we decided to spend it at the botanical gardens. When we returned, we met the Dutch consul and some other people. Some could speak Dutch perfectly, some mixed it with English, because they have been living in Australia for 70 years. Some people gave a speech, speaking about the importance of freedom and how we should never forget. Then we had 2 minutes of silence, exactly as how it would go in the Netherlands, they even had someone play the Trumpet part (or it could've been a Bugel, don't pin me down on it.) After the service, we got invited for what they said was a "quick snack and a drink," but it actually was a full-on meal. We had a burger with chicken and some french fries, it was great! The fact that it was all free, probably made it even better. :)

We talked a little with the elderly people, and they showed us were to find the mall and how to take the free loop bus. So, as you might have guessed, our next stop was the shopping mall. Emma bought some clothes, but I didn't. I tried some things on, but I didn't buy anything.

After this, we walked a LONG way, up a HIGH hill and it was exhausting! But our goal was to get to the Roma Street Parklands and we got there, so that's all that matters. There had to be some place somewhere where you could see the Brisbane Skyline, but I was too tired to go find it, so Emma did. She told me it was not worth it to walk such a long distance, so I didn't. After enjoying the park for a little longer, we took the train back to Robina and Tracy and Ari picked us up. And now we're at home cooking dinner. :)

I said I'd update some photos from the days before, but I'll just update 'm on here, seeing as it's only me wearing a Donut King uniform.
