Day 40 - Anything is a Blessing

Crater Lake National Park, 08.09.2017

Took four hours to travel from Salem, OR to Ft. Klamath, near Crater Lake. Passed by Dexter Reservoir with picturesque covered bridge. Travelled through Willamette National Forest and up through the mountains while viewing Diamond Peak, a shield volcano in the Cascade Range. We weren’t looking for anything, but turned a switchback in the road and there it was, standing in full sun with a snow cone top at 8,743 feet above sea level. That’s the thing about the Northwest: these mountains and volcanoes seem to be everywhere and they show up sometimes when you not looking for them. At almost three times the elevation of Seven Springs mountain, this was a nice surprise.

The rest areas of Oregon are a little more colorful than back East. We saw this school bus to home conversion complete with chicken coop and hot tub --- on top of the bus. We think the owners were a small family sitting near the rest rooms with a sign: ‘Anything is a Blessing’ near the money can. Life is good.

We pulled into Ft. Klamath and Crater Lake Resort mid afternoon. Great parking spot by a creek that was crystal clear and relatively private. Nice location for tomorrow’s trip up to Crater Lake National Park, about 20 minutes up the road.
