Hostel ratings:
Cartagena - El Viajero-3/5 (cold showers, poor breakfast but nice common area to sit)
Santa Marta - La Brisa Loca- 3/5 (cold showers, no breakfast, really loud if you are not going out every night you are there but great quiz night and helpful receptionist Ricky)
Medellin - The Pit Stop hostel 5/5 (safe area, rooms away from bar, near going out area, good atmosphere)
Bogota - The Cranky Croc-4.5/5 (slow food service, but central and safe, very clean and AMAZING HOT showers!!)
Must do in Colombia:
1.Santa Marta-visit tayrona park and worth the trek to El Cabo
2.Santa Marta -Minca Trail
3.Medellin-The official Pablo Escabor tour
4.Medellin-The Guatape rock and the view was amazing
5.Bogota- The bicycle tour
General Points to note:
-In Cartagena be careful of the agency you go with at the port as we had a two hour detour on a deserted island.
-If you get a bad stomach infection buy a packet of Ciproflaxin
-Wifi is poor all over Colombia
-in Medellin the PitStop hostel is a must stay, great atmosphere and pool and cooking facilities
-Bogota the month of June is pretty chilly and overcast, dress warm
-if traveling Viva Colombia make sure to check in online
-Hindu black tea is a great Barry's tea replacement
