Today we have a guest blogger: Nairne.
After discovering there were no bread rolls this morning Elen got to use a bread slicing machine for the first time. We all had our staple cereal and bread for breakfast - yum! Unfortunately Saffron's pear exploded in her bag and Robyn's 2l water pack exploded on the kitchen floor. Luckily she hadn't put it in her bag yet so only the floor got soaked - phew! But at least we were now ready for the biscuit factory and shopping.
On the bus Hannah C took a vow of silence, although we aren't exactly sure why. We eventually got on the train (meaning Hannah could speak again) and a kind conductor offered all of us some local salami and cheese. Why can't English trains do this?! We also met a very cute baby who liked the taste of Kate's arm a little bit too much. We went to the biscuit factory and had to watch the history tour in German before watching the whole thing again in English!! We learnt how Kambly biscuits became so popular in Switzerland and how they spread to the rest of the world, as well as learning about all the different biscuits they make. This was fun but eating biscuits was a bit better. We learnt quickly that the only way to find your favourite biscuit is to try every biscuit in the the store. Twice!!
Once we finished eating, sorry buying biscuits we took a train to Thun and we were greeted by surfers on the river (Saffron found her perfect man!). We split up and went shopping for clothes and makeup, because there's no such thing as too much shopping.
We decided that we were bored of buses and caught the boat to Spiez instead. This was much more fun, although it was pretty hot by this point. That said, we did have quite a nice breeze when the boat was moving and the view was lovely. As we got off the boat we walked past a wedding and we got to see their horse and carriage, complete with red plumes! Luckily the boat got in on time so we could catch the bus rather than walk up the huge hill. After the last few days our legs are pretty tired so we were happy that we didn't have to walk!
Catching the bus also meant that we had time to visit the shopin the station. We were all feeling pretty hot so we stocked up on slushies and blue Fanta. This definitely hit the spot as we waited for the train. What we didn't expect was to see a little dog hiding inside a woman's bag on the platform - he looked so cute & cosy! We finally caught the train home only for the leaders to be yelled at by an angry man in German! We're still a little puzzled what the problem was but he got off not long after so no harm done.
Once home Daisy & Lucia helped Rachael make Shepherd's Pie for tea - yum yum! Whilst making the mash Nicky & Rachael were teaching them how to make creamy mash when Lucia announced that 'Violence makes mash'. After a yummy dinner we headed off to the campfire.
The international campfire was great because there were people there from all over the world, and each group got to lead a song or perform a skit. We had decided to perform the song 'Oh Alaylay', but a group of Scottish Scouts had the same idea and performed it first. We had about five minutes to think of a new song but we pulled it off - phew! We performed the 'Moose Song' instead, which is one of our favourites. We later learned that the Australian scouts had been planning to sing Moose - oops! But it all worked out okay. The American groups performed a few skits which Nicky didn't really find funny (they were a little bit confusing) and the Pinkies performed a very funny version of 'If I Were Not at Kandersteg', which had everyone laughing hysterically!! The campfire ended with everyone huddling together to sing 'Kumbaya' which was beautiful to see and incredibly peaceful.
The leaders told us to be back for 10.45 but when we arrived back only Kate was there. The other leaders were busy talking to scouts from Australia & Ireland and so were late back! Tut tut! But at least they came back eventually.
