Today saw us leave our new friends at Kandersteg and head to Paris for our Disney Adventure.
The day started slightly later than normal as we didn't need to leave till nearly 11 but that didn't stop Nicky, Kate, Elen & Hannah C heading out for a walk just after 8 as neither Nicky or Kate could sleep & the two girls were up & about way before the 8.30 wake up call. They headed out for a stroll & ended up walking all the way to the Sunbuel Talstation (Cable car) then taking the only muddy trail currently in Kandersteg over the Lotchberg Tunnel & through the camp site before heading to get bread.
Hannah C hadn't been to get our bread before & we managed to convince Annie (the head of the kitchen) to let her use the bread slicer. Kate was very happy about this as it meant she didn't have to slice everything today.
Having all had breakfast, Operation Tidy Up commenced before our rooms were inspected by the KISC staff. Lucia & Daisy definitely win the completion for the messiest room but Nairne & Hannah W won who made the most rubbish! Hannah C proved a dab hand with a vacuum cleaner doing both her & the leaders rooms though Daisy & Lucia took a more leisurely approach sitting on the floor to do their hovering before the leaders suggested they may get more done if they could see where they were hovering!
Having tidied & our rooms signed off, the girls went to spend the last of their francs at the shop (Spray Candy anyone?) and Kate bought Rachael & Nicky (& herself) Eco Adventure badges which they'd signed off the last two clauses of the challenge last night by star gazing & bat watching.
We finally got the bus and headed to the train station for the start of our long journey across Europe to France. It felt weird leaving Kandersteg and not going back home but the thought of Disney made up for the sadness of leaving. On reaching Thun we were informed the train would have to wait in the station for a while (queue panic to check we had options for our connections at the next stop (Bern) but we needn't have worried as we got to the end of the line in plenty of time to get our connection to Basel. We had a long wait at Basel to catch the TGV but finally we were off to Disney!
The girls chatted, played games & slept. The leaders asked them to decide who should be in which room as we had to split them into 2 lots of 3. Hannah W made a very good suggestion that they have one person from each of the 3 pairs we had at KISC pronouncing herself to be very mature for her excellent idea. We all would have agreed with that statement had it not been followed by sticking her tongue out & spraying candy on it, giggling.
Once we got to Paris we realised we were definitely not in Switzerland anymore - the train station was not very organised & Kate and Nicky had to go & speak to someone to confirm which of 3(!) ticket machines we had to buy tickets from. Having got tickets, we headed down three floors to the RER A line & got a very hot train to Disneyland Paris. The train was packed but we all managed to get on though no seats today.
From the Disney Train station, we managed to get a Bus to our Hotel - it's lovely & even has a Disney shop in it! We made a new friend too as the shop assistant today is a scout captain from Italy & insisted on having photos with us as she was excited to show her scouts back home that she had met us.
We had a picnic of our now staple diet of Bread, cheese & Salami before buying slushies & going to see the animals at the petting Zoo. We all had an early night before what is sure to be one of our longest days of the trip!
