So today we decided to have a bit of a chill day seeing as we've been super busy recently. After breakfast we headed out on the Green Chalet Challenge, which was rather like orienteering with a few questions thrown in. As we walked around the campsite looking at trees and the sheer volume of flags that the American Scouts have around their tents (we're talking hundreds - their site is covered in flags!) Nicky & Kate headed off into town in search of goodies for lunch, or so we thought... They also managed to squeeze in a cheeky cuppa whilst they were in town - it's alright for some!
After the challenge we were let loose on the KISC shop, armed with our money and ready to stock up on badges and neckers! Now we just need to learn how to properly roll a necker (to Nicky's exacting standards) and we're all set!
Lunch today was interesting as we'd decided to have soup & sandwiches. However, we'd let Nicky choose the soup and we quickly realised that the noodles were actually alphabetti spaghetti! This would have been fine, but someone had decided that letters were not enough& the soup also contained numbers! Number spaghetti - who even does that?! Despite this the soup was lovely, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. A last minute addition to lunch was a free packet of mustard (yes, MUSTARD) flavoured crisps, which were not particularly popular with anyone other than Kate. But we all tried them and that's the important thing, right?
After lunch we headed into town for a bit of retail therapy, because a girl can never do too much shopping. We followed this up with a trip to the Hotel Post for some beautiful ice cream, kindly donated by Graham Joiner, aka Nicky's Dad (we'd like to say a massive thank you for this - it was very much appreciated given the heat over here!) This was incredibly well timed, as the rain started falling just as we entered, and stopped just before we left. Lucia seemed to enjoy the ice cream the most, becoming so excited that she was physically dancing as she ate, resulting in her laughing so hard she could barely eat at all!
The day was finished up by a wonderful dinner of Macaroni & Noodle Bolegnaise (we didn't have spaghetti so needs must!) and taking part in the International Patrol Challenge. This involved being split up into separate teams and competing in a number of challenges, including filling tubes with water using only a cup (hilarious to watch!) Unfortunately Elen's team got confused and attempted to complete the final challenge without all the equipment they needed. Despite their attempts to substitute in an m&ms packet they were unfortunately disqualified.
Today was also a day for firsts. Hannah W tried her first ever crisp sandwich (how she has managed to get through life without this experience we will never know!) Daisy used a Henry Hoover for the first time (again, how?!) 259th Glasgow Guides made up their first ever song (complete with dance routine!) The concept is simple, each verse contains a different Mexican food; including guacamole, fajitas and avocados, complete with an action for each. I'm pretty sure I will be hearing "Guac-a-mole, Guac-guac-a-mole' in my sleep tonight!
All in all we made lots of new friends, heard thunder echo through the mountains, ate a lot of sugar & are well rested ready for tomorrow.
