As the sun rose, we made the 6-hour drive to Elephant Butte, NM. Upon our arrival we quickly realized we had selected a very remote RV Resort with only a few local attractions. However, we had no complaints about the size of our lot, the indoor pool and spa and the well planned daily events. Even with much of days being spent either in the rain or freezing cold, we managed to enjoy some activities such as:
• Took the dogs to visit the Elephant Butte State Park (largest reservoir in NM)
• Went bowling with other RV’ers
• Took daily bike rides or walks
• Checked out the Chile capital of the US (Hatch, NM)
• Ate at some fantastic restaurants (Latitude 33 and Los Arcos)
• Bought a new motorhome

We also had a few unfortunate events while staying in New Mexico. We had the pleasure of meeting the fine folks at the Siesta Vista Emergency Room when Darryl sliced open his scalp and required 7 staples, ran out of gas about ½ mile from a gas station requiring Darryl to push the car and a near death experience in the RV when a large semi crossed over into our lane causing Darryl to swerve and drive into the emergency lane. Not only would we have likely rolled the RV and been seriously injured or killed, I would have died while sitting on the toilet. Epic fail!
While New Mexico wasn’t exactly what we had expected, we enjoyed the 30 day stay and were very excited about making our way towards warmer weather in Arizona.
