Today we got up early to explore the temples and a shrine within the local area. It took us about 5 hours altogether to get around them all but it was nice to get a feel of the local culture. One of the temples we visited had a large entrance and steep steps but provided great views of Kyoto when we reached the top.

We had lunch at the shrine before making our way to the Gibson Temple which was was very impressive. It had a balcony area which over looked most of Kyoto which looked great with the sun setting.

After walking around the temples, we headed back to the hostel and met up with Julian for a beer in the hostel bar. We went to a local restaurant that did bento style boxes before heading back to the hostel which was running a wine night. We sat in the bar and had a few drinks with some of the staff and other travellers for a few hours before everyone decided to go out to a club in Kyoto. We had a really good night and were happy to get an experience of the Japanese nightlife.
