Today was the day when we started our two days of trekking. We were going to go trekking in the hills and jungle of Sangkhlaburi. Our transport would be siting on top of a pick up truck which was very bumpy and a bit scary. It took around an hour to get to our destination; a local community leaders home where we would begin our trekking. We would be staying in tents within the home, staying out of the rain and away from the insects. I (Lewis) noticed a scorpion on the wall near the tents and asked Goong had to get rid of it. We collected our pack lunches and set off on the trek. Our guides were locals from the area and they were certainly well equipped carrying machetes and rifles. They said it was due to people crossing over from the Burmese border.
The trek lasted about four hours in total and included a stop off at a cave where we ate lunch. It was a vast cave and wasn't too easy too navigate being pitch black inside. After we then made our way back towards the community leaders house. Everyone was knackered from the trekking but we stopped off at a lake and swam to cool down and clean off. We finally made it back and had a really nice dinner cooked by the people that lived within community leaders house.
They had a small bar onsite so we took advantage of this in the evening and played card games. It was good fun and we even managed to drink the bar dry.
