Broadfeet across America

With subway and train travel under our belts, it was an easy walk across the road and back to Penn Station to catch train #195 to Washington. Now, like any public transport you should arrive at 30mins before it leaves which we did so, in fact, we were there an hour prior. The train was meant to leave at 11.05am and at 10.55, there was still no track number assigned to the display. We found ourselves waiting with what seemed like the majority of people in the station for this particular train. Finally, with 5mins to spare the number was announced and we lined up ..... It's in moments like these that you feel blessed to have children because a lovely young employee walked over to us and said "follow me" and moved us to the front of the line and down to the platform.

Today we were spoilt with the luxury of Business class. Now, while we still had to load our bags and find seats together (again no allocated seating), and had no red carpet, we did enjoy larger leg room and foot rests. We also discovered, thanks to a lovely lady sitting in front of us that business class passengers get free water and juice for each travelling person. So after an hour of stretching our legs and sitting back (like well-seasoned travellers) Hayley and I wondered through to the Food Carriage and collected two hot teas and 2 Apple juice for no additional cost. The train is a great place to see some of the countryside and how it changes from place to place; the only part I won't miss is the train toilet ......

Washington seems a very organised place, easy enough to get around and well planned. We caught a taxi from the station and arrived at our new 'home' - Avenue Suites which to our wonderful surprise has a great kitchen, with a living room and a bedroom. So it was off to our favourite supermarket "Whole Foods" to collect groceries for chef Pe'er to create yet mother masterpiece.

Tomorrow, it is the beginning of two days of walking around monuments and museums - can't wait.
