Broadfeet across America

We said goodbye to Phoenix, the Barmettler's and headed to the airport for a new adventure in San Francisco. Our 4hr journey was a combination of two flights, we first flew into Orange County (just below LA) and then swapped planes to head to our destination. A few days before, Peter had been keeping track of Australian friends who had travelled to the USA and were also in San Francisco. Unfortunately, these friends had encountered quite a few difficulties with cars, baggage and airline tickets. We, on the other hand, had not had ANY .... Until today.

Our flights were on time and easy; it was waiting for baggage that became a tad painful. Our usual routine at the baggage claim is for Hayley and Miranda to run around, count the bags and drag them off the conveyor belt. One bag, two bags, three, the two extras and then .... hmm "where's Dad's bag?" ..... waiting, waiting, waiting ..... The conveyor belt stops. Yes, the worst was revealed, Peter's bag had not arrived. All we could do was place a complaint and head to the hotel. Yes, the incident had put a 'downer' on our great trip thus far, as Peter was convinced his bag was gone and we would never see it again. Miranda, Hayley and I, on the other hand, were optimistic and we believed with a little prayer, it would certainly return

The girls had planned to wash 'Dads undies' every night and suggested he would be okay at night as he could sleep in the 'nude' .....!!! We spent the afternoon going for a little walk and having a look at Fisherman's Wharf. Peter was advised that Southwest Airlines could call at either 4.30 or 6.30 after the two flights arrived in San Francisco that could have his bag onboard. He was so adamant about his bag being lost that we didn't even check his phone at 4.30/5pm. Instead, we sat downstairs and enjoyed the complimentary wine hour, which our new hotel offers every evening between 5 and 6 pm. After wandering back up at 6.30, we entered to a ringing phone and a message that Peter's bag was in SF and it would be delivered to our hotel between 4 and 6 hours. Hooray!!

At this point, we went out for fish and chips to celebrate! We found a great little Cafe and ordered fish chips and Fisherman's baskets - a feast. The meal was very fresh and very very enjoyable, until, that is, a few hours later when the odd tasting prawn I had eaten made my belly squirm and bubble and just feel awful. Consequently, a few hours later, I was sitting on the bathroom floor!!
