This week has probably been the worst week since I have been here.
Saturday morning beautiful and sunny as normal..I get up and do my normal morning stuff..have a shower, do my bucket washing, a visit from Jai for a few hours my Saturday was going good so far..that soon changed...just before Jai left to go back to Mussoorie there was a group of hysterical cries and people shouting through their tears.. I couldn't understand it not speaking Hindi but Jai turned round to me and said there had been a death and it had been quite recent so after Jai had gone I tried to found out who it was.. Naveen (my drivers) 's mother had passed away suddenly at 9am that morning and their friends and family had all come to mourn the passing...it was a strange feeling knowing this as I had spent alot of time with Naveen's children and obviously I had spent day's with Naveen when he had been driving me around, but what was more weird is that I had been sat with his mother just the day before outside their house and I wouldn't have known that she was ill. Apparently there are some medicines particularly liquid medicines that cannot be trusted here and essentially medicine killed Naveen's mother. She had been taking a medicine for a pain in her leg for a long time she was a relativity old lady and as the older you get the more medicines you take for aches and pains and things.. anyway the medicine she had been taking was causing significant damage to her organs and ultimately shut them down causing her sudden death.Everyone in and around the hotel have been mourning for days (as expected). As I didn't know the Hindu way of going about paying your respects I stayed out of the way that day.
Me staying out of the way meant I was one of the last to know about the next bad thing to happen on the same day just hours after. My Mummy Ji in the little Indian family I have here and been in a road accident. She was walking across the road and a high speeding bike crashed into her..she had bad wounds to her head, shoulder, both elbows, her hip, down her leg and her ankles. She has also been knocked out. For days after I would see her every day and all she would be is asleep and in pain it was horrible to see. As she was starting to improve the third bad thing was starting to set in...my fever!
Apparently it is common around this time of year when the cold nights start to set in that a rather nasty fever goes around...it was normally quite a sudden appearance for most people and would hang about for about a week... well after seeing maybe 9 or 10 people around me getting it I had it coming really. Hot temperatures, no energy, a stinking cold all hit me at once.. I was not impressed.. I spent 3 days where I pretty much didn't move from my bed and then 3 or 4 days where just going outside felt like I had run a marathon..I was simply drained.. as I write this now I am on the better part of this fever..its pretty much gone now and only get the old horrible feeling in my throat but finally I'm on the mend.. hopefully things start to turn around for the better now...just 6 weeks left in India how the time has flown by...
