My first proper outing more than 5 minutes away from my accommodation..thank god I had a driver Naveer very polite but very little English arranged by my accommodation. I was heading out for a day of local sight seeing nothing over 40 mins away and my god there was plenty!!
First stop was a relatively quiet place called Sahastradhara (Do not ask me to say the name because when someone tells me it, it just sounds like noise lol) The roads getting to this place were very curvy roads, made me really dizzy.. the kind of roads you'd see on top gear for fun roads to testing a cars grip around corners if you know what I mean!...
There was two things to do as a tourist one go to a Hindu temple and two go up on a rope way to see the views of the mountains and I did both. For some reason Naveer doesn't go into temples..I guess its a religious thing so off I pop on my own.
I cross a river going over the stunning river view to "Madam! Madam! May I have a photo we have photo!!" What looks like a family outing 3 guys, an auntie and uncle and a teenage girl. The little teen was giggling away and looked quite nervous to be near me it was probably the first time she had seen a westerner. I happily stood there all each of them had a photo with me one by one with my cheesiest grin, shook hands with each of them with them saying thank you over and over again and off they go.. amazingly I think my photo was probably on every portable camera device they had but none on my own.. never mind.
First to the temple a small temple surrounded by a beautiful river and waterfall. In the temple there was a few statues in glass boxes, some incense and a very old man with a orange head dress saying something to me (no idea what) people getting down on their hands and knees kissing the floor (I didn't do that it was wet with everyone having bare feet no thanks) there was also a small cave like area where a small trickle of water runs down through apparently scientist have no idea where or how this water is coming through the cave, making it a spiritual place. Incense burners burn all the time and people walk up 3 steps to kneel down and pray to this rather odd cave.
Anyway coming out of the temple I thought I would stroll a little further up following the path around the waterfall. I get to a nice spot take some touristy photos of the river and my surroundings turn around to head back to Naveer when "Mam mam photo us there" 3 guys asking for photos in front of the water fall.. I knew that your not meant to have photos with guys because of all the gremlin stories you here but I could see Naveer clearly and there were plenty of people around so I thought what the hell. 3 photos later and I am saying goodbye and heading back to Naveer.."Madam where are you from?" i hear from behind me.. i look back and its the 3 guys heading in the same direction.. "England" i say and keep going... "Are you here single?" ahh hello gremlin i think to myself I know what you want.. Never has the ring Jai gave me all those years ago been so handy I'm glad I still wear it!! I turn and point to the ring and say "No" "Ahh ok it was nice to meet you" I was able to get back to Naveer in piece after that!!
After seeing the river and the temple I walked with Naveer up to the Sahastradhara ropeway 15o rupees to go on (£1.50) and omg it was breathtaking the views were stunning of the mountains surrounding me.. some of the mountains were so high the clouds were circling the tops of them. These were the views that tourists are sold and I got to have them first hand..I sat there for a good half an hour and just took in where I was.. Sahastradhara is a small but beautiful place.. I can just imagine the views I will have when I go to Mussoorrie but that will be another time going higher into the mountains.
