Mijn dagboek

But to all things less fun, there are more then plenty things that make all the paperwork and the waiting in lines completely worth it!
As i moved to a country unfamilliar to me, the first thing one would notice is the difference in culture.
Of coure there are a lot of ways in which the Finnish culture differs from the Dutch one, and i will take a long while discovering them all, but the first i got introduced to, was the Finnish love for hockey.
One of the employees got free tickets for the last game of the season, and i was invited along.

Now i am usually not really big on watching sports, but i wanted to have a look all the same, to see the national sport of Finland in action. And i was not dissapointed! Not only was the game amazing to see (i had never expected such grace from hockey players), but the behavior of the audience themselves was also very interesting to note.
The start felt pretty standard. You had to show your ticket, and went inside the stadium to look for your seat. But in every seat i spotted a slip of thick paper, to which i was told to fold it like a fan. What i thought had been advertisement, was acually something used to make noise with!
The thick paper fan would be used by the audience to hit the chair infront, or their own hand, or their leg, or whatever seemed a good surface to make noise with. I found this a very intruiging system, as it was a lot less costly then other noisemakers i've seen used in sports on tv, not was it much less obnoxious.

What i also noticed during the game was the overall spirit. Now of course one game is not representative for an entire countries behavior, but i saw relatively few people being overly angry or invested in the game. When you come from a country where fights and agression rule the stadiums, it is quite the refreshing change of pace!

(for a more complete immersion to hockey, feel free to look at this vid! http://s167.photobucket.com/user/Wolfro_2007/media/20170227_183524_zpsf35srpty.mp4.html?sort=3&o=0 )

The next cultural immersion planned is going to be the sauna. There is one in the building i reside in, so i will update on my experiences on that soon!
