Mijn dagboek

It is officially spring! As a person who thinks summer is the best part of the year, i am exited for the sunshine and warm weather. I heard back at home it is going to be around 15 to 20 degrees!
..Boy am i jealous of that.
Here in Finland the weather is getting a bit less overcast in general, but it is still very much cold. 2 degrees seems to be about the avarage, and i am blissfull when i get a day where it is 7 degrees. Now of course i knew from the start that Finland is a much colder place then the Netherlands. But it feels quite weird when you feel like it should be warm by now, yet it isn't. It kind of throws your body off a little bit.
But Finland has its own charms of course! When i arrived here, it was still winter, and even though the locals told me it has been quite the crap winter, i was still impressed with Finland in it's winter coat. Little islands with some still green trees, covered in snow and in the middle of a huge completely frozen over lake is not something you'd come across back at home. Another interesting thing i noted was that instead of salt, which would not work because of the sheer amounts of snow here, they throw down gravel to help with traversing the many hills in the road without sliding right back down again. I find myself quite fortunate i managed not to fall down once! Especially with how slippery it sometimes was.

I also noticed now that it is (very) slowly warming up, i can see some animals popping up again. I did not really think about it when i just got here, but the only animal i saw in the weeks that we had snow was a single squirrel. (which still was pretty exiting since i never saw that many of them in my life, let alone that close!)
But slowly i can see some life returning. Most seem to be water birds, like a swan, some ducks and the odd seagull (there are so few of them! i expected a lot more of them in a big city like this).
Hopefully the warmer it gets the more animals i will be able to see!
