An overnight stop in Fillmore, UT brought us some pleasant surprises. Although the Wagon's West Campground was nothing to write home about, the goats kept us amused. We had to stop at the hardware store for a hose valve and a woman there who had lived all her life in Fillmore...whose parents, grandparents and great grandparents had also, told us to be sure to make few stops. We did and she was right. First stop was the State House Museum. Utah's original state capitol.
Next was the Spinning Wheel Motel..old and funky. Then the "famous" Pioneer Market for the market's claim to fame. Here is a blurb from Pawn Stars that tells all about it:

Wow, a 30 minute new episode of Pawn Stars on a Wednesday. Almost as rare as tornadoes in Massachusetts, to which our prayers go out to the folks in MA., Nebraska and Kansas who all had tornadoes today.

The first guy had a 1800 Gatling gun that is up in Utah. They, Rick and Sean, went to Ashman's Pioneer Market, which is in Fillmore, UT. http://www.pioneermarketguns.com/ they looked at some guns and then saw the Gatling gun, which was invented by a doctor, Dr. Gatling, who thought the gun would end all wars. The gun was great in shape and shines and all the parts were original. The guy wanted $335,000 for the gun. They also went after a Sharps Carbine from the Civil War. Rick offered $200,000 and then $220,000. No deal. For the Sharps Carbine, rick offered $1500 and the guy wanted $2500. After some bargaining, the carbine went for $1900.

It was a great stop. Every town has a story..no matter how big or small. We love hearing them and finding them. From Pioneer Market's Gatling Gun fame, Chief Kanosh whose wives all met untimely deaths in the town now named for him, and Roger Boisjoly, engineer who tried to prevent Space Shuttle Challenger from launching, lived his final years in Nelphi. Mr Boisjoly's story was one I never knew.
