The famous Trevi Fountain is the end of an aqueduct system that carries water all the way from the Salone Springs and supplies all of Rome's historic fountains with water. The aqueducts were created in 19 B.C. by Agrippa and a small fountain was found here. But in 1732, Pope Clement XII called for the making of the fountain we see today created by Nicola Salvi. Salvi designed it after a design Bernini had but he passed away before the fountain was ever finished. The centerpiece is Neptune, god of the sea. His two horses represent the sea itself, one being calm and one being very aggressive. The fountain is filled with coins as many people toss change into it to make a wish, and tossing a coin is supposed to guarantee that you will come back to the eternal city.
