2 nights in Swakopmund at Seabreeze Guesthouse is just nice to let all impressions soak in and do some laundry, quite decadent in our eyes. The family who run the guesthouse are very helpful with booking good restaurants and the Sandwich Harbor tour. Just do some shopping for lunch and then we leave at 11.15 with Ben for the dune and beach adventure. We gather with 6 4x4 jeeps to go to the beach of Walvisbaai and we do not yet know what awaits us all. It is indescribable and almost impossible to capture on photos. The tire pressure of the jeeps is reduced to 1 bar. We start at the salt basin, where salt is extracted for the whole of southern Africa and where thousands of flamingos live that are called the greater and the lesser. Then we drive to the beach where we see seagulls, seals diving in the waves and cormorants. Then we go into the dunes and it starts with the descent of "little one" and that is already quite steep and more and more steep descents forwards and backwards follow. It looks like Dakar in the dunes. We have given Ben a 10 for his driving style and the extensive explanation about the animals and environment. In the dunes we see a group of springboks, a jackal, a Namib dune gecko and salamanders who have all adapted to their environment. There should also be an ostrich with a boy, but we couldn't find it. Via a rough drive along the beach we are dropped off at our guesthouse around 19.00 to freshen up, after which we walk to the restaurant the Wreck with a view of sea oysters and fish.
