radio transmissions.” The commander of the D-Day operation was Eisenhower. He was the one who gave the troops the go ahead mark to complete “Operation Overload”. Eisenhower had over five thousand ships and landing craft transporting soldiers and other resources for backup. He also had eleven thousand aircraft to provide air cover and support if anything were to go wrong. At 6:30am is when the battle began. The German’s were confused due to the diversions of the intended attack target. At the time during the invasion the Germans commander was on a leave of absence, which resulted in Germany’s defeat. The Allies marched across the entire Normandy countryside to the Seine River, Paris, they successfully removed the Germans from northwestern France. Hitler knew they were outnumbered, and he was on his pathway to death, so he surrendered by suicide. Formally, the German surrendered on May 7, 1945 when General Alfred Johl put in signature his surrender at Reims, France.
Today Normandy beaches are a historical site where people can explore where the battle took place. Theses beaches today now hold seaside resorts, fishing villages, and D-Day memorial landmarking’s.
