The Battle of Stalingrad would be marked as a time that turned the tides of World War II. This is noted as one of the deadliest battles of World War II where German soldiers needed to replace Russian soldiers due to casualties. It is universally regarded as the battle that turned the tide of the war where poor conditions and freezing temperatures deterred many from fighting against the allied powers. Stalingrad was however equally important to both sides as it was a majorly important industrial and transportation hub that acted as a Go between for both forces. Whoever was to control Stalingrad was to control the oil fields of the Caucasus and would have control of the
area of Volga. Germany was already operating on limited forces and this made the Battle of Stalingrad a momentous battle because this would decide who controlled the oil fields in which Germany was being rapidly depleted of. This is when Germany released one of their final strategies in which the Germans would release an offensive attack using luftware bombing that would release most of the city to ruble and ruin. However, Hitler was determined to hold the city at all cost, and this was shown in his last attempt to hold the city by giving air support to their allies’. This was punctuated by Hitler continuing this battle for another 2 months which depleted their food and ammunition which forced the German forces to surrender in what would make this the first of Hitler’s ground forces to surrender in war. Overall, these battles would mark the beginning of the end for Germany and the Soviet Union as in team fighting and freezing temperatures started to take a toll on the remaining soldiers. These long months without break ended up breaking down the already fragile relationships between the soviets and the German forces.
