Day 28 - Crossing Washington

Issaquah, WA, 07.28.2017

Left Idaho this morning to travel west across the state of Washington, named after George you-know-who. The western half of the state is basically a high plains desert interrupted by irrigated fields. Lots of tumbleweed bushes.

I-90 crosses the very wide Columbia River near George, Washington (no joke). A very long bridge was first built there in 1927, reengineered later on to become an interesting landmark. The views of the Columbia River Gorge were stunning.

Arrived early afternoon in Issaquah, WA … a suburban area outside of Seattle. After a month in small towns and national parks, the Seattle area hustle and traffic presented a wake up call. The upside … places like this usually have great restaurants. Our dinner at the Fins Bistro in Issaquah, with smoked salmon penne pasta and shrimp and scallops in curry and rice were outstanding --- and only five minutes from the campground.

Speaking of which, you don’t get much in a campground when you book near cities like Seattle. Small sites stuffed back to back. Definitely not what you would see in a travel camper ad.
