Held off leaving until rain let up - departed about 12:00 noon. We could tell by the radar that the rain was moving out. We still put all our layers on and waterproof clothing just to make sure - no fun getting wet.

After about 30' clear skies and sun. By the time we reached Fredriction it was in the 80's! Stayed on the 104 to make time - 4 lane toll road in the middle of nowhere. Forest all around with signs to watch for moose - no sightings yet.

Stopped at Amherst for lunch - downtown not revitalized yet - needs some work.

Not the best sleep as I could smell fish and chips all night. This hotel met our most basic of needs but left much to be desired. The rain just wasn't going to let up so after a delayed departure we suited and layered up and headed west. Strong winds and pelting rain wasn't going to stop us and we felt sorry for those heading into the storm.

As the day progressed, the sky turned blue and I packed my rain gear and a few layers. Beautiful countryside but no cows! It seems BMW's are the preferred touring machine here with Harley's far behind - other brands are for crotch rocketeers.

We sing songs and talk goofy stuff over the headsets. Nice touch to break up the time and very useful when needing directions. There are still glitches in the newtork which we will work out. Once you've got it, you can't do without it.

Ate lunch at Duncan's in Amherst. Walked around and took pictures at a Baptist Church that surely had to be built as something different as the architecture just didn't match - not your foot washin', shape note singin', confederate grave site kind of church.

VB found a nice Best Western in Fredericton. We enjoued 2 for 1 beers (I had 3) and planned our re-entry. Slept soundly.

One nice thing about these hotels is that we can park under the awning in front of the lobby. This gives an added sense of security and allows for speedy repacking: my bags and gear go on first, grab some breakfast for the room, then Virginia's gear. And we are off.
