Nova Scotia 7-3-16

Had a relaxed start this morning - did some yoga to work the kinks out. Studied the maps and watched the skies clear finally. Had a little scare - the hotel clerk called our room and said the BMW was smoking - Spencer ran down to check it out - the connection for the iPhone had gotten waterlogged and shorted out.

Started out on good old 219 and headed north then east on Hwy 6. Couldn't ask for a prettier road - I can't imagine Nova Scotia being more spectacular. We are traveling mostly in the valleys with mountains on all sides.

Had lunch in Ridgway PA at Jordan's bar & grill and Wimbledon was on!

We got a late start this morning but all was well as the skies were clearing. I thought I had dried out the USB connector well enough until the front desk called and said the bike was smoking...oh my. Toasted the connection but didn't hurt anything else. "I've got to get this wiring redone" was my mantra the rest of the trip.

Rolling up 219 I recalled our trip with Phil and Myra 18 years ago. We really didn't know much about motorcycle travel then - just learned as we went. The small towns seem more depressed than then; empty buildings, houses needing paint, and roads beat up. Despite this, there is still less trash than in Georgia/Alabama. Speaking of which, we see more rebel flags here than back home.

Gas at Norm's! Nice guy who wanted to pump my gas. I told him I appreciate it but would prefer to do it myself. He said he'd been in the same location 42 years so I'm sure he's pumped a few gallons into motorcycles.

Got a sandwich in Ridgeway. While loading up after lunch we hear a plate glass crash and see a couple with a big dog walking down the road. It seems there was a dog inside that wanted to play...Tales from the road.

Into New York I commented we had ridden 1,000 miles. Seems we are averaging 333/day. Farming communities with pretty town squares make me smile. The mountains aren't as tall but still beautiful. Hopefully our agrarian roots won't be forgotten.

At Ithaca, we found a room, showered then walked to get Mexican and tequila. Sound sleep.
