Retirement Odyssey

Sunny weather returned today, but still cool enough that I didn't need to wear shorts. We took a pleasant drive to the little village of Rochefort-en-terre, another of those tiny towns with the appellation "Village of Character." The roads continue to be in great shape; some of those we used today were so new, the 'traffic furniture' was not yet installed and the new roundabouts didn't show on GPS!! Signage is generally good though it can be confusing in the 'Centre Ville' of old towns.

Got to Rochefort early enough that parking wasn't much of an issue (we learned our lesson in Pont Aven and Roskoff). Lucky we were early because it turns out today was the first day of a Medieval Fair! There were encampments like at Sturbridge on military days, knights in armor and on horseback (prancing steeds on the main street.) Many people on the streets in medieval costume. Lots of games for kids (no bounce house), medieval food and drink.

The church was interesting, 12th century Norman. Established on the site where a shepherdess found a wooden statue of Mary that had been hidden in a tree trunk 2 centuries earlier .... or so the legend goes.

Back to Vannes. Took a long walk along the harbor under the shade of an alley of linden and plane trees. Dinner at another sold out establishment, Le Balade en Crepanie. Tina decided crepes CAN make a good meal after all! (but still won't touch the 'cidre' )

Walked - 6.4 miles

Drove - 73 km
