Oh to see The Palace of Versailles; a gorgeous piece of French diplomatic and royal history that has the ability to transport one back in time. This was the palace established by king Louis XIV and designed by architect Louis Le Vau, after the king wished to get some distance from Paris and move government to gain more control. The site was foremost a hunting ground the king and previous family had enjoyed but would ultimately become one of the most infamous and historic places in France.
Walking up to the palace and seeing the gorgeous golden cased gates was a dream to say the least. Even more beautiful it was to see the many rooms filled to the brim with artwork and historic artifacts from the time, which seemed to put me in a trance. I tried to imagine what it would have been like to live as a royal in that time. Adorned with a fancy evening gown and corset, as my heels clicked against the marble floor of the halls and ballroom, filled with chandeliers. The view outside of the intricately designed garden, cascading with flowers and landscape patterns that led to gorgeous fountains, shrubbery, and a lake adorned with small paddle boats. I very quickly came out of these trances when masses of people would step on my toes in order to get the best pictures and videos for their facebook and instagram posts. It was comical though, and made me realize how much we as a society have changed from that time. There were no cellphones, social media, cars, or facetune in the 1600's. Sorry instagram "baddies," haha. It was a simple time where people appreciated quality time, nature, literature, and deep relationships. It is hard to think about how we as a society have become more superficial and materialistic, basing our value from the likes on instagram. We spend less time with our loved ones and more time on our phones, and fail to use our time wisely. Though I love the advances in technology and feel that our world has become so efficient and convenient compared to back then, I do still wish that we could begin to make a change to use our time more wisely.

The palace of Versailles was an experience that I will never
forget. It reminded me to take in the beauty of things without my phone all the time, and use my own eyes. To make memories with people I love and live simply.
