The study of humanities is pivotal in my growth as a human being in many ways. Composed of aspects containing history, art, language, reading, writing, and so on, humanities shapes the way that I view the world and gives every human being a unique perspective in themselves.
I have always peaked an interest in the different fields of humanities in the aspect of social skills and communication, pertaining to my field of International Relations. With International Relations I must know how to effectively communicate cross-culturally and be able to understand different world-views from other cultures, and humanities helps me to develop my speaking and writing skills, and abilities to learn about the history
and ways of foreign places.
Without humanities, Paris would look like a completely different place. Paris has so much history and special art artifacts that make up the character, architecture, people, and culture. While I have been exploring the city, I have learned so much about the history behind why the buildings look the way they do, why battles and wars raged on, and how things came to be the way they are. Without the attention to humanities during my time abroad, I would have no cultural understanding or respect, which would make my trip useless in point. For that matter, even residing in my own country without the study of humanities I would see America and the rest of the world in a completely different way. I would have no knowledge behind the history of how America was cultivated or the importance of it all.
Humanities will always be important to how we grow and evolve as the human species. We grow in our knowledge of past history, art, and circumstances, and move forward into the future with a complete understanding of how these things affect us.
