Capernaum

Capernaum was an important town to the ministry of Jesus. What I thought was most interesting about this location was the realities of natural disasters in this part of the world and what that means for historical sites. There is At one point there was an earthquake that was 9.6 on the Richter scale. It was estimated that a 150 mile area was devastated. This brought the population from 2 million to 200,000 and no one rebuilt in the area until 1920.

This was also a good place to have a discussion on the Jewish house in the ancient Roman world. Often when a Jewish son was married, he would simply build another room onto the current family dwelling. This would often create a 4 room house with only one entrance to the family dwelling.
