My South American adventure

I have been here now a couple of days and Cusco is amazing. I am staying in a host family with 4 other girls who are also volunteering and with 5 cool birds. The family, Virginia and Osmar, an old but still really alive couple, are taking care of us. I have to speak Spanish with them, but thats good for me, so that i can practise. I can make myself understan5dable, which is really cool. Although i have to adapt to some change of lifestyle (no toiletpaper in the toilet, no heating, no luxury), we get 2 really tastefull meals a day with coca tea and luckily we can take hot showers and we have wifi. Not all accomodations have this. I am really lucky, because it gets really cold here in the morning and evening. And during the day you have to wear sunscreen, because you will get burned on this height

Cusco

The family, Virginia and Osmar, an old but still really alive couple, are taking care of us. I have to speak Spanish with them, but thats good for me, so that i can practise. Not all accomodations have this. I am really lucky, because it gets really cold here in the morning and evening. And during the day you have to wear sunscreen, because you will get burned on this height

(3400m). I dont have problems with sickness, but climbing stairs has become a big challenge, as there is less oxigen over here. But i can deal with it.

The place is also close to the city center. We can get there by Taxi for 3 soles (less than 1 euro) or by mini-bus for 70 centimos, which is really cheap. Cusco city center is really beautifull with a lot of restaurants, bars, etc. Especially the cathedral is beautiful. I still have to do a city tour and to so more of the buildings.

At my first day i did a spontaneous quad tour with my roommates and their friends to the salt mines and Morray. It was amazing! One thing i can already scratch from my bucket list.

Yesterday i had my first day at my project (Corazon de Dahlia). I have to take a mini-bus for 45 min to get there, as it is a little outside of Cusco. They are taking care of children between 5 and 12 years old after school. They can have some help with homework, get vitamines and attention and are taught about hygienics. I am placed in a class with mostly girls between 8 and 11 years old and they are so sweet! They ask me about my name, say that i have beautiful blue eyes and hug me all the time. I try to read some English books with them and after we played with a ball outside. Can't wait to see them again!
