Before we had our first meeting with our Client, Mr. Gao Shugong (Vincent) who is the cofounder and the Chief System Designer of Artisman Technology Corp. Ltd., we thoroughly researched Artisman’s website, products and people and sent a question guide to him prior to the meeting. To our surprise, our client had impressive English and we realized that Vincent was equally excited for this project as we were which immediately raised our hopes and allowed us to go through all the details required for building a strong platform for our project. However, we unanimously came to the conclusion that to understand the real story and business needs of Artisman in a more efficient manner, given the time was a constraint, we can invite a ‘member interpreter’ to join our group.

The kick-off Skype meeting was a success and a great first step towards realizing our goal. Vincent was very well prepared and shared his ideas and concerns for market entry in the U.S. He also elaborated on their previous international business experience in Russia and South Africa. He discussed the current trends in machine manufacturing industry and furniture industry in China and was happy about his business success as the increasing purchasing power of people was a strong driving factor for success but at the same time he was concerned about the intellectual property for his software. This was one of the main reasons why he was thinking to expand business in the U.S.
